Sin of Antoni Gruda 1975

Synopsis

Regained Territories of Poland, 1945. Settlers relocated from the former Eastern borderlands arrive at the lands abandoned by German refugees. There are peasants hungry for land among them, but also adventurers and grifters. The newly appointed village administrator is dividing the land. One of the biggest farms is allocated to Antoni Gruda and his wife Teresa. They enthusiastically set about working on the land, but soon it turns out that running such a large farmstead is the burden beyond their powers, leading to differences and quarrels between the spouses. In addition, life on the Regained Territories after the war is not a bed of roses either: gangs of Nazi survivors prowling the area, multiple cases of arson and theft, people suffering from traumatic war experiences – all this makes the adaptation to the new conditions extremely difficult.
