The launch of shooting Hidden ("Ukryci") by Agnieszka Holland

Towards the end of January Agnieszka Holland is going to start shooting her latest film in Berlin. The filming will also be carried out in Leipzig and Łódź.

The film, being a Polish-German-Canadian co-production, shows war experiences of Leopold Socha, the Pole who over the course of the Second World War changes into a hero out of a petty thief. He selflessly decides to hide in sewers a group of the Jews from the Lvov ghetto. Risking his family?s and his own life he saves from death more than a dozen men, women and children who thanks to his help manage to spend almost 14 months hidden underground.

The character of Socha will be played by Robert Więckiewicz. Also starring in the film are Agnieszka Grochowska, Kinga Preis, Julia Kijowska, Marcin Bosak and the German actor Benno Fürmann. The cinematography is the work of Jolanta Dylewska who directed "Po-lin. Okruchy Pamieci" and received numerous awards as the cinematographer for the film "Tulpan".

The Polish producer of the film is Zebra Film Studio and the project is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
