The Wedding 1972

Synopsis

A wedding procession sets off from the St Mary\'s Church, and, passing by the surrounding villages finally reaches the house of the Host. What follows is the wedding reception of the newlyweds – an intellectual and a peasant girl. Consequently, the wedding guests also represent both social ranks. Soon the party is in full swing. At night Rachela, a young Jewish woman and a sensitive and poetic soul, arrives at the wedding reception. Succumbing to the wedding euphoria, she invites Chochoł [Straw Man] standing behind the window to join the party. An aura of the supernatural seeps imperceptibly into the merriment of the feast...

The Wedding is a masterly adaptation of a play under the same title written by Stanisław Wyspiański. The film is saturated with symbolism, mysteriousness and ambiguous characters typical of Wyspiański\'s works.
The atmosphere of the bygone era and the cheerful mood of the wedding party are created through richness of colors, set design, music, excellent filming and perfect cast featuring the actors who created unforgettable, even lifetime, characters.
